Our client, a leading retail brand, is seeking a Merchandise Planner to join their team in Durban. The company is renowned for offering high-quality fashion products and is focused on providing the best shopping experience to its customers. This role plays a crucial part in optimizing stock levels, ensuring the right products are available at the right time.

Description

The Merchandise Planner will be responsible for developing and executing merchandise planning strategies to maximize sales and profitability. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience in forecasting, inventory management, and sales analysis. The role requires close collaboration with buying, marketing, and store operations teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse historical sales data and market trends to develop accurate merchandise plans and forecasts.
  • Manage stock levels and ensure the timely replenishment of products to avoid overstocking or stockouts.
  • Collaborate with buyers to ensure the product assortment aligns with consumer demand and sales trends.
  • Monitor and analyse sales performance by product, store, and region, adjusting plans accordingly to optimize profitability.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed reports on sales, inventory, and performance metrics for senior management.
  • Coordinate with the logistics team to ensure smooth product flow and timely deliveries to stores.
  • Develop markdown and promotional strategies to optimize inventory levels and minimize excess stock.
  • Ensure that all merchandising plans align with the company’s financial goals and market strategy.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the buying and merchandising teams to review performance and adjust forecasts.

Education Profile

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in merchandise planning, preferably within the fashion retail sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion, Business, Economics, or a related field.
  • Experience in managing inventory for multiple stores or regions.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in sales forecasting, stock management, and financial analysis.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work with large datasets and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and retail planning software.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate across departments.
  • Detail-oriented and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
