Introduction

Our client, a leader in the retail industry, is seeking an experienced and motivated Trainee Buyer to join their team in Durban. Specializing in Menswear and Boyswear, this role requires a candidate with an understanding of the latest trends in fashion and a passion for sourcing high-quality products.

Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in sourcing and selecting menswear and boyswear products that align with the brand's identity and customer preferences.
  • Support market research efforts to identify emerging trends and potential new brands.
  • Help build and maintain supplier relationships, contributing to negotiations for favourable terms and contracts.
  • Monitor inventory levels and collaborate to ensure timely stock replenishment based on performance and seasonal demand.
  • Work with merchandising, design, and marketing teams to ensure product offerings match sales and promotional strategies.
  • Analyse sales data to identify trends, best-sellers, and slow-moving items, adjusting the buying strategy accordingly.
  • Attend relevant fashion events, supplier meetings, and trade shows to stay updated on industry trends and product offerings.
  • Ensure all selected products meet the company’s quality standards and are delivered within budget and on time.
  • Report on sales performance, market trends, and buying strategies to senior buyers and management.

Education Profile

  • Matric (Grade 12).
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a buying role, preferably in menswear and boyswear or related fashion categories.
  • Strong understanding of fashion trends, particularly in menswear and boyswear.
  • Vendor management and negotiation experience.
  • Proficient analytical skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and retail management systems.
