Introduction

Our client, a leader in the retail industry, is seeking an experienced and motivated Trainee Buyer to join their team in Durban. Specializing in Footwear , this role requires a candidate with an understanding of the latest trends in fashion and a passion for sourcing high-quality products.

Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in sourcing and selecting footwear products that meet the company’s quality and fashion standards.
  • Conduct market research to stay ahead of trends and identify new product opportunities.
  • Support in building and maintaining supplier relationships, contributing to the negotiation of pricing, contracts, and terms.
  • Monitor stock levels and assist in ensuring timely replenishment of best-selling products.
  • Analyse sales data and consumer preferences to make informed buying decisions.
  • Collaborate with merchandising and marketing teams to align product selection with promotional strategies.
  • Attend relevant trade shows, fashion expos, and supplier meetings to stay informed on industry trends.
  • Support the purchasing process, from order placement to delivery, ensuring products meet the company’s standards.
  • Monitor budgetary spending to ensure cost-effective buying decisions.
  • Provide regular updates to senior buyers and management on sales performance, inventory, and trends.

Education Profile

  • Matric (Grade 12).
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a buying role, preferably in footwear or a related fashion category.
  • Strong understanding of fashion and consumer trends in footwear.
  • Experience in vendor management and negotiation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and retail management software.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
