Introduction

Future Careers is recruiting on behalf of a leading national retail group for a talented and trend-driven Private Brand Apparel Buyer. This exciting opportunity is based at the company’s head office in Bellville, Cape Town.

We are seeking a dynamic, fashion-savvy individual with a strong understanding of apparel sourcing, product development, and retail buying. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the company’s private label apparel strategy - delivering collections that inspire confidence, performance, and style.

Description

As a Private Brand Apparel Buyer, you will be responsible for building innovative and customer-focused ranges across multiple apparel categories and genders. You’ll lead the end-to-end product journey, from concept development and supplier sourcing to final product delivery - ensuring every range embodies style, quality, and value. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where creativity meets commercial strategy, and your passion for sports-inspired fashion will guide your decisions.

Key focus areas include:

  • Developing trend-led, customer-relevant apparel assortments
  • Partnering with local and international suppliers to deliver high-quality, cost-effective ranges
  • Applying data-driven insights to buying and range planning decisions
  • Managing timelines, quality, and margins to achieve business objectives
  • Championing the development of an iconic global sportswear brand within the South African retail landscape

Education Profile

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Relevant qualification in Fashion/Textile Design, Clothing Production, Product Development, or Merchandising
  • Minimum 3 years’ buying experience in sports, athleisure, or casual apparel
  • Strong knowledge of fabric types, garment construction, and fit
  • Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple product categories within tight deadlines
  • Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with PLM systems (such as Airtable) advantageous
  • Willingness to travel locally and internationally
