Introduction

A retail company in Durban is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join its finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing reconciliations, overseeing bookkeeping activities, administering payroll and preparing timely management accounts.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years’ experience in a similar financial accounting role, strong Excel skills and practical experience with Pastel and Xero. A relevant degree with Financial Accounting as a major, combined with strong analytical and communication skills, is essential.

Description

  • Perform regular and accurate financial reconciliations.
  • Oversee and administer the payroll process, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
  • Supervise the Bookkeeper and ensure that all financial transactions are processed accurately and timeously.
  • Review bookkeeping activities and maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial records.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and supporting financial reports.
  • Assist with the analysis and interpretation of financial information.
  • Complete ad hoc financial processing and accounting duties as required.
  • Ensure financial information is accurate, complete and available within required deadlines.
  • Identify discrepancies and assist with resolving financial and accounting-related queries.
  • Maintain appropriate financial controls and accounting procedures.

Education Profile

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar Financial Accountant role.
  • Degree with Financial Accounting as a major.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficient in Pastel and Xero.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively supervising and supporting finance team members.
